Creativity Is Not From Abroad, It Comes From Above

A lot of Africans think creativity and inventiveness is something only the “oyinbo” people have. Others think creativity belongs to artists, musicians, and maybe graphic designers. But the Bible presents creativity as something much deeper. Creativity is one of the ways God expresses Himself through human beings. Every solution, every invention, every breakthrough, every technology, every beautiful work begins as an idea. Ideas matter because God is a Creator. We were made in His image, so the ability to imagine, design, build, and solve problems is part of our spiritual inheritance. Creativity is one of the ways the grace of God works through us to bless the world around us.

We see this in the story of Bezalel. When God wanted the Tabernacle built, He did not just give Bezalel instructions. God filled him with His Spirit and gave him wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and skill for all kinds of craftsmanship. Bezalel’s ability to design, build, and create was not treated as a natural talent alone. It was a spiritual empowerment. God anointed a craftsman. God anointed a builder. God anointed a designer. This reminds us that creativity can be just as spiritual as preaching, teaching, or any other ministry gift when it is surrendered to God.

Many of the problems around you are waiting for a creative solution. Ask yourself: What comes naturally to me? What problems do I enjoy solving? What ideas keep returning to my mind? These may be clues to the grace of God at work through you. Do not ignore your creativity. Develop it. Use it. Strengthen it through study, practice, and obedience. The world does not only need more sermons. The world also needs better solutions, better systems, better businesses, better technologies, and better ideas. Your creativity may be the key towards destroying the poverty ravaging your world.
